The Environmental Assistant is responsible for handling hazardous waste generated at the facility, including hazardous waste labeling, storage, and shipment. This role ensures compliance with all relevant environmental regulations and company policies. Responsibilities
Conduct daily environmental inspections to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies. Perform daily pH probe calibration / standardization for effluent water flow to maintain proper operation and reporting. Conduct inspections and collect samples following proper chain-of-custody procedures to ensure accurate and reliable data. Operate and maintain the chromium treatment system to ensure efficient and compliant operation. Coordinate with vendors for empty drum pickup to maintain a safe and organized storage area. Maintain inventory of hazardous waste supplies and personal protective equipment to ensure availability and compliance. Properly label hazardous waste containers to meet regulatory requirements and ensure safety. Move hazardous material / waste drums using appropriate equipment and procedures to maintain safety and compliance. Complete documentation (hazardous waste manifests) to ship hazardous materials and hazardous waste, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations. Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the environmental field. Good computer and communication skills. Physical capability to move hazardous material / waste drums safely. Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of chemistry and experience with analytical equipment is a plus. Skills & Abilities
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict procedures and protocols. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Proactive in identifying and solving problems. Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant work environment. Working Conditions
This position involves working in an industrial setting with exposure to hazardous materials. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. The role requires physical activity, including moving and lifting heavy drums of hazardous material.
