Position Overview The Mechanical Design Engineer II will play a key role in designing, developing, and refining mechanical components and assemblies for our robotic surgical systems. This role emphasizes concept design, troubleshooting/root cause analysis, and DFMEA, ensuring robust and high‑quality mechanical solutions.

Working under the guidance of the Staff Mechanical Engineer & Team Lead within the R&D department, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to bring advanced robotic technologies from concept through commercialization.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and contribute to concept and detailed mechanical design of robotic system components and sub‑assemblies.

Apply DFMEA methodologies to identify potential failure modes and ensure design robustness.

Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis for mechanical and system‑level issues.

Develop prototypes, perform mechanical testing, and support verification and validation activities.

Utilize CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to model and analyze designs.

Collaborate closely with electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers to ensure design integration and manufacturability.

Support design reviews, documentation, and design transfer activities to manufacturing.

Work with suppliers to ensure component quality, manufacturability, and timely delivery.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support compliance with FDA and ISO standards.

Required Skills & Abilities

Strong foundation in concept design, DFMEA, and troubleshooting/root cause analysis.

Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks) for design and documentation.

Hands‑on experience with precision mechanisms, actuation systems, and mechanical assemblies.

Understanding of regulatory and quality standards (FDA, ISO) for medical devices or similarly regulated industries.

Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and manage multiple design tasks.

Preferred Skills & Experience

Experience designing electro‑mechanical systems or robotic mechanisms.

Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and tolerance analysis.

Exposure to the full product development lifecycle, from concept to production.

Prior work experience in medical device, robotics, or high‑precision engineering environments.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

Typically 3–8 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in robotics or medical devices.
