Within Monarch, our Tree Health Care (THC) program specializes in diagnosing and treating pests, disease, and abiotic stress in trees and shrubs. We are seeking a motivated and reliable Tree Health Care Technician to join our growing team. This is a hands-on field role that blends science, arboriculture, and technical application methods. Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies
Strong understanding of tree biology and physiology, including root-to-crown systems, compartmentalization of decay, and plant stress responses. Ability to diagnose common tree/shrub issues, including insects, fungi, bacterial pathogens, and abiotic disorders (soil compaction, drought, construction stress). Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies and environmentally responsible treatment practices. Proficient in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) Familiarity with chemical classes (fungicides, insecticides, miticides, phosphites) and safe tank-mixing procedures. Certifications & Licensing
State Pesticide Applicator License (required within 90 days of hire). ISA Certified Arborist credential preferred. CPR / First Aid certification Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; CDL a plus. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform tree and shrub health care treatments including systemic injections, bark sprays, soil drenches, root collar excavations, and foliar applications. Ability to read, understand, interpret and follow pesticide labels (English) Safely mix and apply pesticides, fungicides, fertilizers, growth regulators, and bio-stimulants in accordance with label requirements. Inspect trees and shrubs for pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stressors. Collect soil and tissue samples for lab analysis. Maintain accurate and compliant treatment logs, pesticide use records, and client notes. Safely operate and maintain injection systems, spray rigs, soil probes, backpack sprayers, and other specialized equipment. Adhere to all ANSI Z133, OSHA, and company safety standards, including proper PPE use. Communicate clearly with managers, arborists, and clients regarding site conditions and treatment outcomes. Support training and mentoring of junior crew members as needed. Working knowledge of soil science: nutrient cycling, pH balance, compaction, and amendments. Proficiency with application methods: systemic injections, bark sprays, foliar sprays, soil drenches, and growth regulator applications. Knowledge of local /state pesticide regulations, reporting requirements, and buffer zone restrictions. Experience with record-keeping software (e.g., ArborNote, Aspire, LMN, or equivalent). Strong communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts in clear, client-friendly language. Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds frequently. Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions. Regular bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, and walking on uneven terrain. Ability to safely handle, mix, and apply pesticides and fertilizers with appropriate PPE. Work Environment
Field-based role; extensive outdoor work year-round. Frequent exposure to pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemical products (all PPE provided). Regular use of mechanical equipment and injection systems. Exposure to varying noise levels and weather conditions. Total Rewards
