Orthopaedic Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC), is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to care for Orthopaedic Trauma patients. Working at the Shock Trauma Center, you become a vital part of a trauma team which cares for patients from admission through discharge.

Overview

Location: Baltimore, MD (UMMC – Shock Trauma Center). Status: Full-time; 4x10-hour shifts with rotating days.

Responsibilities

Perform examination, evaluation, assessment and interpretation of clinical data to provide orthopaedic trauma care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Interview patients for health history and perform physical examinations.

Order and evaluate diagnostic and laboratory tests; document H&P, progress notes, and treatment plans.

Act as liaison between patients and physicians to coordinate care, including pre- and post-operative care.

Care for patients in both clinic and hospital settings; participate in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement meetings.

In collaboration with the attending physician, provide day-to-day organizational and clinical direction of the healthcare provider team.

Perform comprehensive history and physical assessments for patients admitted or scheduled to the service/plastic setting.

Order, obtain and interpret diagnostic tests; establish medical diagnoses based on findings.

Develop and document treatment plans, including medications; initiate protocols and clinical pathways; ensure timely interventions.

Involve in patient flow, discharge planning and coordination with case management.

Provide education to patients and families; promote disease prevention and health maintenance.

Qualifications

Master of Science in Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program; current Maryland NP certification and licensure (or PA equivalent) with DEA and CDS eligibility.

CPR required; ACLS/BCLS as required for inpatient work.

Minimum of one year of RN experience.

Strong communication skills; ability to work with a multidisciplinary team and promote professionalism.

Knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan; ability to assess population-specific needs.

Maintain required safety training and immunizations as per practice area guidelines.

Working Conditions

Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call and overtime responsibilities may apply.

Potential exposure to infectious diseases with required universal precautions (gloves, goggles, mask).

Patient Safety

Ensure patient safety in job performance with participation in safety initiatives.

Take action to correct risks, report adverse events, and implement policies and standards.

Maintain effective communication with the health care team and patient families.

Additional Information

Pay Range: $54 - $77 per hour
