Medical Practice RN in the Medical Oncology Department in Carmel, NY. 40 hours per week, 8 hour shifts, Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm. Salary Range: $33.66 - $67.05 hourly. Sign-On Bonus: $5,000 for full-time externals, pro-rated for part-time. Purpose: The role of the Registered Nurse in the Oncology service line is to apply an integration of theory, research, experience and practical knowledge within the maximum scope of practice through protocols, practice guidelines, care paths and medical directives. Essential Responsibilities
Provides direct comprehensive care by conducting a thorough health assessment and formulating, implementing and communicating a holistic plan of nursing care. In conjunction with the Surgical or Medical Oncologists, creates a clinical plan of care including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, social work, diagnostic imaging, pain management, and works with patients to ensure appropriate follow-through and clinical appropriateness. Collaborates with the oncologist through a complementary relationship based on shared decision making and joint problem solving; communicates effectively to facilitate mutual agreement and acceptance of responsibilities within scope of practice. Accesses ports for lab draws and preparation for infusions; maintains port-a-caths and cleans ports as appropriate. Documents all relevant patient information, including history, physical examination data, nursing care plans and interventions, and patient responses in the medical record according to organizational standards. Manages telephone calls from patients, families and community healthcare professionals to navigate the healthcare system. Provides holistic nursing care to meet emotional, psychological, informational, spiritual, and practical needs of patients throughout the cancer care continuum. Guides patients through cancer treatment and care, providing information and education to facilitate informed decision making tailored to individual needs. Uses evidence-based practice to facilitate optimal patient outcomes and demonstrates critical thinking to identify knowledge gaps and practice issues. Maintains competence, accountability for decisions, and proactive learning to meet patient population needs. Maintains REACH Values (Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, Honor) and demonstrates reliable attendance. Performs other duties as required. Education And Experience Requirements
Associate degree in Nursing. One to two (1-2) years’ experience with electronic medical records system. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN). Preferred: Medical oncology experience. Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Requirements
Cancer-specific knowledge and clinical expertise in cancer care. Knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care to the patient population served. MS Excel and presentation skills. License, Registration, Or Certification Requirements
Current NYS Registered Nurse (RN) License. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Preferred: Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) certification or achieved within 24 months of hire. Working Conditions
Manual: Some manual skills and finger dexterity. Occupational: Some occupational risk. Physical: Medium to heavy effort; may exert up to 35 lbs.
