The largest of Duke Health's four hospitals with 1062 patient beds, it features comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including a regional emergency/trauma center, an endo-surgery center, and more. **** This Position is Eligible for up to $8,000 Relocation and $15,000 Commitment Bonus **** General Description of the Job Class Apply ionizing radiation to the patient (including pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations) in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist and under the supervision of the Chief Therapist. Duties and Responsibilities Deliver accurately the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy with minimal supervision. Check prescription, diagnosis, chart, and patient identification. Explain procedures to patients, including communication during treatment and emergency procedures. Reinforce Radiation Oncologist’s advice regarding reactions to treatment and patient care. Prepare room and equipment according to prescription, including immobilization devices, field size, treatment distance, and lead protection. Transfer patients safely to treatment couch, taking care of catheters, IVs, etc. Check daily treatment time and deliver prescribed dose. Maintain visual and audible communication with patients during treatment. Maintain patient markings and observe for reactions, reporting to staff as needed. Follow radiation safety measures for patients and staff. Perform simulations and assist in tumor localization and immobilization procedures. Assist in dosimetry calculations and obtain weekly port films for review. Assume weekly on-call status as applicable. Perform daily accelerator warm-up and QA procedures. Maintain treatment records and participate in department quality activities. Perform mold room duties and maintain supplies. Secure x-ray and lab reports as needed. Report equipment issues to supervisors. Participate in departmental performance improvement activities. Assist in hiring and training new staff. Attend departmental meetings and educational sessions. Follow hospital policies and procedures. Required Qualifications Education Completion of a 24-month course in radiology technology and a 12-month course in radiation therapy technology; or Completion of a 24-month course in radiation therapy technology; or Registered nurse with a 12-month radiation therapy course; or Bachelor of Science in radiation therapy. Experience One year of clinical training in Radiation Therapy. Licensure and Certification Current licensure as required by authorities and/or certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy. Maintain ARRT certification with ongoing continuing education. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of operation of radiographic and radiation therapy equipment.
