SweetWater Brewing Company is seeking a Quality Lab Technician to join our team. You’ll play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and consistency of our beer products. Roles and Responsibilities
Keep “quality always” as an integral part of day-to-day operations at SweetWater Brewery Follow minimum sampling plan for daily sample collection for microbiological, physchem, packaging, and sensory analysis. Perform data entry and trend analysis using excel/SmartSheet software. Ability to follow SOPs to ensure all testing/analysis is completed accurately and consistently. Take part in the on-going development of our food safety programs as an active member or coordinator of the HACCP team. Effective auditing of processes including SOPs, CIPs, HACCP, GMPs, brewery sanitation audits, etc. Follow reaction plans for out-of-spec product. Reporting of non-conformities to appropriate personnel in a timely matter Own blocking program with full understanding of all aspects Perform/ assist in preventative cleaning and maintenance on lab instruments. Micro Program - Use proper aseptic collecting techniques when processing microbiological samples using selective media and micro identification. Yeast Management - Assist in the management of propagation, harvesting, and health of the brewery’s yeast strains. Perform in-process fermentation checks: ABV, ABW, SG, RDF, AE, calories via AP alcolyzer, Manual IBUs & color via spectrophotometer, VDK analysis via Forced Diacetyl Testing, Microbiological samples Perform packaging/kegging line QA checks: TPO/CO2 via AP PFD/CBox, Fill weights, Seam inspection via CMC Kunkle equipment, OQI inspections, Sensory analysis via DraughtLab Sensory Program – Set-up routine sensory panels including: BBT & shipping release of product, shelf-life studies, brand linear tasting, raw materials analysis, market comparison/ research Manage/assist the sensory program and foster an environment of continuous education. Use data to drive process improvements throughout all areas of the brewery. Minimum Qualifications
Basic understanding of laboratory equipment and techniques. Familiarity with quality control principles and procedures. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Previous experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in a food or beverage industry, is a plus. Have flexibility to work multiple shifts (day/swing) throughout the week. Education
