Open until filled Description The Department of Population Health, Division of Global Health seeks a Clinical Team Leader for the Academic Model Providing Access to Health Care (AMPATH) / Modelo Academico para Proveer Acceso a la Salud (MAPAS) Mexico partnership in Puebla, Mexico. The Clinical Team Leader will divide time between Austin, Texas and Puebla, Mexico. This is a faculty position at the rank of Instructor at Dell Medical School, University of Texas at Austin. The Clinical Team Leader will work with the Chief of the Division of Global Health, the AMPATH/MAPAS Mexico Partnership Director and Clinical Lead, BUAP leadership and faculty, and Mexican public sector health and community partners to advance the non-communicable disease (NCD) program and contribute to AMPATH’s tripartite mission of care, education, and research. The role requires leadership, cultural and linguistic skills to develop strong relationships with Mexican partners and supports initiatives to reduce health care inequities in Puebla and in LMICs more broadly. The Clinical Team Leader will advance the NCD program in Puebla, including training and mentoring local promotoras (community health workers), home and community-based health promotion and screening for NCDs, and implementing a group-based NCD care model. The role includes monitoring and evaluation of the NCD care program and engaging learners from Dell Medical School and BUAP in the AMPATH/MAPAS Mexico program. Professional mentorship will be provided by UT Austin Global Health leadership and AMPATH/MAPAS Mexico partners to support career growth. Central Health – Clinical Role The Austin clinical role is with Central Health, the safety net hospital district for Austin/Travis County. The exact clinical opportunities will be determined with the candidate and Central Health based on mutual interest and need. Central Health – Department of High Risk Populations As a physician in this department, you will work with a multidisciplinary team to provide trauma-informed care to people experiencing homelessness or who are marginalized. The department aims to increase access to care for those most in need. Clinical service lines include: Bridge/Mobile/Street: low-barrier, high-access care at the Hub Bride clinic and mobile sites; connect patients to comprehensive care and primary care medical homes. Respite: care for eligible patients discharged from hospitals, with medical stabilization and support for transition to housing. Housing for Health: integrated medical and behavioral health care for people transitioning from street or respite into housing. Central Health – Department of Transitions of Care The staff physician oversees patient care, manages clinical teams, and provides direct care to low-income and uninsured patients in post-acute settings, including SNFs, hospitals, and home visits. Responsibilities include acting as attending physician, leading rounds with APPs, and coordinating transitions of care with case managers and social workers. Inpatient care in partnership with UT Austin and local hospitals may be required. Collaborate with APPs, Transitional Care at Home team, and case management for the Transitional Care at Home program with home visits. Provide direct patient care in SNFs and acute hospital settings. Serve as an attending physician in SNFs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Develop and maintain relationships with Mexican partners related to the NCD program. Responsibilities include: Design clinical protocols for a group-based NCD care model informed by Mexican guidelines and WHO/PAHO resources. Develop training materials for NCD care in Spanish for early-stage physicians, primary providers, and promotores comunitarios (CHWs). Implement, coordinate, and lead the group-based care model for diabetes and related NCDs with oversight for BUAP and UT/DMS trainees. Collaborate with the AMPATH/MAPAS monitoring and evaluation team on NCD data collection and analysis. Support management of external funding for the AMPATH/MAPAS Care program as designated by leadership. Contribute to Global Health Division and AMPATH Consortium funding proposals and reports. Develop and implement education and training programs for UT Austin, BUAP, and AMPATH learners; evaluate curricula and support visiting trainees. Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to faculty and residents in scholarship, teaching, and service related to AMPATH/MAPAS Mexico.
