Overview

Flow Cytometry Specialist, Childrens Research Institute at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Works under general supervision of principal investigator to prepare and analyze patient specimens by use of laser-based flow cytometers in research or clinical laboratory. Details: in the Moody Foundation Flow Cytometry Core facility under the direction of Dr. Sean Morrison at the Childrens Medical Center Research Institute (CRI), UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. The ideal candidate is an organized, proactive professional who will support research in a specialized capacity with all aspects of flow cytometry, specimen analysis, core facility utilization scheduling, equipment maintenance, and training. This would be an excellent role for a scientifically-minded professional with strong flow cytometry experience who enjoys helping others build their technical skills and who is looking for a long-term stable position with a top-notch academic research facility. Responsibilities

Process/tests specimen samples from bone marrow, blood, and various other tissues for analysis and diagnosis of hematopathologic malignancy or immunodeficiency. Count and measure cells by utilizing Flow Cytometer for optimum specimen data acquisition, analysis, manipulation, validation, and quality control purposes. Utilize mononuclear cell isolation and monoclonal antibody staining techniques to produce optimal specimens for Flow Cytometry analysis and interpretation. Record and label specimen samples in log, including patient details and clinical information; prepare pre-processed slides as needed. Analyze and prepare preliminary reports for pathologist consultation. Practice quality control procedures to produce accurate and valid results and ensure compliance with federal and laboratory guidelines. Ensure proper cleaning, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instruments; troubleshoot equipment as needed. Conduct independent research or development projects with minimum supervision and assist fellows and rotating residents with research projects; evaluate and implement new methods. Provide leadership and technical assistance to Medical Technologists to ensure accuracy of clinical data. Maintain appropriate billing records for instrument time and generate invoices for clients using flow services. Attend continuing education seminars and stay current with flow cytometry literature. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Education: Bachelors Degree with major coursework in one of the major physical sciences or advanced coursework in Flow Cytometry or Cytometry manufacturer training. Experience: 3 years of general lab experience as a certified Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist, or 2 years of Flow Cytometry experience. Benefits
