Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications: Earned nursing-related doctoral degree from an accredited institution by the time of appointment One graduate degree must be in nursing (master's or doctorate) Minimum 2 years of experience as nurse practitioner National certification as a nurse practitioner ABD candidates may be considered with the requirement to complete the doctorate by July 31, 2026 Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required): Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills Knowledge of curriculum and curriculum development Ability to think creatively and strategically Commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship, compatible with the BCHS mission Preferred: Earned Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree (preferred) National certification as a family nurse practitioner (FNP) (preferred) License/Certification Required: Possess (or be eligible for) current registered nurse license and hold or be eligible for licensure as a nurse practitioner in the state of North Carolina Current national certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) Meet the North Carolina Board of Nursing's requirements for nurse educators within 3 years of employment

Department/Unit Description

The Department of Nursing has around 560 students, including the pre-licensure BSN, the online RN to BSN, and the online MSN programs with a concentration in nursing education. The BSN, RN to BSN, and MSN programs are fully accredited by the CCNE. The department is developing a new DNP Nurse Practitioner program to begin in fall 2026. The BCHS supports over 3,400 students in six colleges and nine undergraduate and nine graduate programs. The programs are located in Boone at the Holmes Convocation Center and the Leon Levine Hall of Health Sciences, with a presence on a new campus in Hickory. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide instruction in the DNP FNP program, including classroom, clinical settings, simulation, or online formats Collaborate with colleagues and students to maintain and improve the quality of the academic curriculum Contribute to accreditation efforts and program evaluation Participate in student recruitment, admissions, progression, and advisement Contribute to teaching, practice, scholarship, and service; participate in department, college, and university activities Position housed on the Hickory Campus

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. ABD Consideration:

No ABD consideration (see description below) ABD Description: ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate\u2019s salary will be reduced accordingly. If degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate pay beginning July 1 of the following academic year. No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree will be considered; ABD will not be considered.
