Description Paramedic Full-Time Opportunity Day/Evening 8/12 Hour Shifts To provide basic and advanced life support care to patients in the prehospital and the emergency department settings. Supervises other emergency personnel at the scene. Serves as Incident Commander or Medical Officer for mass casualty situations. Works well as a solo practitioner among volunteer EMS personnel. Competent understanding of paramedic level emergency medicine with ability to deliver patient care in a sophisticated and intelligent manner. Responsibilities Maintains less than 2 minute activation time when ambulance is available. Evaluates scene safety, proceeds appropriately. Always follows universal precautions. Brings to patient side all equipment required, per policy. Brings all patient equipment (per P&P) with patient (on transport ambulance) on Paramedic intercepts. As appropriate for patient condition/complaint, performs a thorough and timely history and physical exam. Develops an accurate working diagnosis. Develops a treatment plan per service guidelines and/or medical direction, implements care plan, explains same to patient/family, monitors and documents results. Provides patient care in the Department in consultation with the Emergency Physician and Charge Nurse. Attends required CME/PCE and is current with CME hours, per policy. Maintains Paramedic License at all times. Maintains CPR, ACLS and PALS certifications at all times. Demonstrates a desire to increase knowledge while in the Department by following patient's progress with physicians. Had no motor vehicle accidents at which the employee was at fault. Demonstrates knowledge of major roadways in Norwalk. Meets driving program standards per P&P. Operates vehicles in a safe and courteous manner per P&P. Provides patients and staff with comfortable ride. Parks safely. Immediately upon coming on duty, checks vehicles, equipment and supplies. Completes required documentation. Corrects any deficiencies identified above by restocking, cleaning, repairing, or by following prescribed notification procedures. Reports all problems and deficiencies to EMS management immediately. Maintains vehicle and equipment in a clean and ready state. Stows equipment per policy. Thoroughly and accurately completes all patient care records, per P&P. Completes all other documentation per P&P. Meets medical documentation requirements for charting per P&P. Completes all Patient Care Documentation in a timely fashion. Promotes positive image of Norwalk Hospital EMS in the community. Provides educational assistance to other health care providers. Performs public education and information. Works to resolve conflicts; demonstrates teamwork. Serves as a preceptor for paramedic and EMT students. Requirements High School graduate. Minimum two years’ experience. CT Licensed Paramedic, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Valid Drivers License. Preferred Associates or Bachelors Degree in Science. AHA BLS, PHTLS/ITLS, TECC/TCCC, NRP. Working Conditions Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity.
