Responsibilities
Conducts complex procedures and tests using Computed Tomography (CT) equipment to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data. Works in collaboration with Trauma, Stroke, Cardiology teams to obtain imaging for advanced diagnoses to aid in treatment options.
Assist the radiologist in performing high-risk invasive diagnostic techniques such as needle biopsies, aspirations, CT-guided joint injections, and CT-guided needle-wire placement exams for surgery. Contributes input for alternative approaches and adjusts scan parameters to limit radiation dosage.
Evaluate contraindications (medications, patient preparation, or patient tolerance) and coordinate appropriate care with care teams prior to or during procedures as feasible.
Perform CTA perfusion, Code IA/Stroke/Bat, Red/Yellow Trauma Series, ROSC, and Portable CT procedures. Train CT Tech I team members on these and other high-risk exams/procedures.
Recognize diagnostic characteristics of normal and abnormal scans and alert Radiologist for escalation or additional care when needed.
Manipulate parameters for CT Gated Watchman and Cardiac exams, monitor devices, and adjust equipment and computer settings as required.
Analyze scan data throughout examinations to provide a comprehensive report and note any complications affecting image quality.
Triages care for general anesthesia (adult/pediatric) exams and provide education to care teams, ensuring optimal parameters, contrast administration, and post-processing of images.
Obtain and manipulate images per protocols, perform multi-planar and 3D reconstructions, and select appropriate window/level settings per anatomy.
Administer oral and rectal contrast per protocols, establish IV access, inject IV contrast safely, assess contrast eligibility, and verify lab values before contrast injection per protocol.
Education, Licensure & Certification
Completion of an accredited educational program in Radiological Science with an advanced registry in Computed Tomography.
Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or registry eligible. If registry eligible, provide a copy of diploma from an accredited program.
Requires advanced certification in CT and ongoing maintenance of registry status and continuing education.
Maintain current competency in BLS.
Professional Experience
Three (3) years of experience as a CT Technologist.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of CT algorithms and image post-processing; ability to interpret scans and communicate findings to radiologists.
Strong parameter manipulation, patient safety, and procedural coordination across teams.
