Structural Design Engineer
to join our dynamic team. This role builds on experience as a Structural Designer II and involves collaborating with a team of architects, engineers, modelers and detailers to transform design concepts into detailed structural plans, specifications, and formal calculation packages using CAD and other industry-standard tools. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a strong understanding of structural engineering principles are essential. Responsibilities
Assist in the production of drawings, specifications, and calculations during a project’s design phase life cycle from conceptual design to completion of construction documents under close supervision and coordination with the Project Manager or Structural Project Engineer. Assist in the completion of construction administration tasks such as reviewing shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFIs, and making site visits, under close supervision and coordination with the Project Manager. Assist in the development of structural designs and analytical models for various building types and materials. Review and revise designs based on feedback from senior designers and project stakeholders. Perform calculations and analyses to ensure structural integrity and compliance with building codes and regulations. Utilize CAD software, including Tekla Structures, to create 2D drawings and 3D models. Collaborate with team members, including engineers, modelers and detailers, to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality design solutions within budget. Participate in internal and external project design meetings to gain practical knowledge and understand project requirements. Stay updated with industry trends, code updates, and advancements in structural design techniques by participating in professional development activities. Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancement within the company. Contribute to shared leadership and accountability for project results, teamwork, and learning/improvement across the organization. Required Skills and Abilities
In-depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards. Familiarity with structural design and analysis, materials, and construction techniques for informed decisions and regulatory compliance. Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues during design and construction. Ability to ask questions openly after spending a reasonable amount of time working through items. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration within the project team. Ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines. Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in design plans, specifications, and construction documentation, and to identify risks or inconsistencies. Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, with active listening, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Adaptability to respond to unexpected challenges and changes in project plans. Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant engineering tools; willingness to stay updated with industry trends and regulatory changes. A desire to stay updated with industry trends and new technologies. Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Structural focus (minimum). Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) license and ability to set up and maintain an NCEES record. Four years of experience in the building structural engineering field. Physical Requirements
Ability to sit or stand at a desk and work from a computer for prolonged periods. Ability to travel to perform site visits at various project locations around the country. Ability to lift a minimum of 15 pounds if needed. This job requisition is evergreen, meaning it is continuously open for applications.
