Overview Stanley Consultants seeks a Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer to lead and deliver water, wastewater, and groundwater projects across our Water offices. The role involves planning, design, construction, and project management of water resources and municipal utility infrastructure, including drinking water sources, distribution systems, storage facilities, wastewater systems, and treatment projects from technical development through construction services.

Responsibilities

Lead delivery of drinking water projects, evaluating and designing intake structures, treatment plants, reuse systems, storage, pumping, and transmission and distribution projects.

Prepare master planning reports and documentation required for grants and loans.

Act as a subject matter expert and contribute to local professional organizations, market papers, and presentations.

Articulate and operate within the One Water paradigm, integrating smart water systems, process automation, and machine learning into design.

Use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and other applicable engineering design tools.

Collaborate with civil, mechanical, electrical, I&C, structural, and CAD disciplines to produce plans and specifications.

Assist in marketing business opportunities, responding to RFP/RFQs, and supporting procurement and execution of projects.

Develop and maintain long‑term client relationships and assist with permitting, property acquisition, and stakeholder involvement.

Consistently manage and deliver projects on time and within budget.

Manage and mentor staff as needed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.

At least 10 years of relevant experience.

Professional Engineer (PE) license; Illinois PE preferred or must be able to obtain within 6 months of hire date.

Experience within Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and/or Wisconsin water/wastewater networks.

Regional expertise in water supply, treatment, storage, and/or distribution.

Active participation in professional organizations.

Strong verbal, computer, and organizational skills.

Excellent technical writing skills.

Strong client relationship skills.

Excellent design team leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master of Science (MS) or PhD in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.

Compensation Competitive salary will be determined by qualifications, experience, and location. Pay ranges are disclosed where required by law.
