Overview
Project Engineer – Transportation role at Buchart Horn, Inc. in Memphis, TN. Full-Time. This mid- to senior-level position supports the design and delivery of complex infrastructure projects. You’ll take ownership of technical design efforts, mentor junior staff, and collaborate across disciplines to bring high-impact transportation projects to life.
What You’ll Do
Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work on moderate to major transportation projects
Perform and review engineering calculations, addressing design complexities such as conflicting requirements and material limitations
Supervise and mentor project team members, including designers, technicians, EITs, and junior engineers
Support project managers in developing proposals, work plans, budgets, and timelines
Participate in client meetings and coordinate with internal and external project teams
Conduct site visits and fieldwork to support project development and design validation
Develop design plans, profiles, and diagrams using AutoCAD and MicroStation
Process shop drawings, respond to RFIs, edit specifications, and prepare cost estimates
Perform and oversee QA/QC procedures throughout project phases
Maintain technical knowledge of transportation design standards, materials, regulations, and technologies
Assist in resolving construction-related engineering challenges
Contribute to internal training recommendations based on industry trends and technical advancements
Lead or contribute to special technical studies and project reports
Ensure compliance with both corporate and client procedures on design and implementation
Conduct project review sessions to monitor progress and identify any required corrective actions
Qualifications
Graduation from an ABET-accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline.
Minimum 7 years of engineering design experience.
Licensed Professional Engineer
Knowledge and experience using computer-aided design and drafting (AutoCAD and MicroStation)
Microsoft Office proficiency
