Lead Civil and Drainage Engineer role at
WSP
in the U.S. Office locations:

with the
Earth & Environment Team .
You will lead and work on a variety of challenging projects, which may include large site developments, stormwater management studies, floodplain analyses and mapping, and many others across different industries. Client types may be private, local, state, or federal.
You will develop and manage clients and opportunities, lead people, and contribute to the success of the Texas / Louisiana regional strategy. You will work with our diverse and talented team of civil engineers in Texas and Louisiana to support the growth of our team and our place in the regional market.
Responsibilities
Lead projects as Project Manager, managing a diverse team of engineers, technicians, and subconsultants. Coordinate with clients, regulators, contractors, architects, and other design disciplines, as the project point of contact.
Support projects as Senior Civil Project Engineer, or other roles as appropriate. Perform or supervise design and analysis for site, grading, utility, and drainage tasks.
Have responsibility for project management responsibilities, including oversight of project schedule, project financial performance, adherence to project management and quality control plans, and adequacy of risk management plans.
Provide construction services as requested by the client, including construction site visits.
Business Development
Engage with clients to develop new business leads and project pursuits. Lead new opportunity pursuits, proposal preparation, and contract negotiations.
Represent the firm in the market through involvement in client and industry events and associations.
Collaborate with local and national WSP market experts and subject matter experts to provide clients with innovative and future-focused solutions.
People and Performance Leadership
Manage and mentor people and support growth and professional development.
Contribute to the management, growth and development of the Civil and Drainage Engineering teams.
Focus on meeting Key Performance Indicators and contribute to the overall success of the Texas / Louisiana Region.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or related field.
Professional Engineering License (PE) in Texas.
Minimum 7+ years of relevant post-education experience in civil and drainage engineering analysis and design, with at least 7 years of related experience in Texas.
Proficient knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, process, and the application to site civil and water resource projects through analysis, design, permitting, and construction.
Well-defined knowledge with Stormwater Management, Drainage, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Watershed Studies, Floodplain Delineation, etc. Proficient understanding of and well-defined experience with surface water analysis, hydrologic methodologies/models, hydraulic models, and with software tools for project delivery including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, Bluebeam, and ArcGIS.
Working knowledge of 2D Hydraulic Analysis, specifically HEC-RAS 2D, and its application to floodplain risk mapping.
Proficient knowledge of relevant construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements. Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and interpret code requirements. Experience obtaining site development permits, CLOMR/LOMR approvals, and other design permits necessary for the construction of a project.
Project management experience with civil and drainage projects including management of proposals, budgets, schedules, staff allocation, subconsultant management, and design deliverables.
Experience with client development and management with the ability to create new project and client opportunities.
Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience. Demonstrated leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC. Demonstrates strong competence in critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subconsultants and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering
Project experience in the Houston area and with the Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD)
Project experience in the Austin area and with the City of Austin Watershed Department.
Professional Engineering License (PE) in Louisiana
Project experience in Louisiana
Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification
