FACILITY OPERATIONS-IUB (BL-PHYP-IUBLA). Capital Planning and Facilities (CPF) works to ensure that IU campuses are beautiful, functional, and sustainable, supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community engagement across the university. A unit within CPF, Facility Operations maintains the physical campus to support research, teaching, and learning at Indiana University Bloomington. As a unit of Capital Planning and Facilities, Facility Operations provides wide-ranging services with the goal of creating a beautiful, well-functioning campus. Responsibilities
Maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, installs, and inspects smoke and fire suppression systems (nitrogen and dry systems), fire alarm systems (addressable and non-addressable), video distribution systems, security and access control systems, and other low voltage systems using hand/power tools and specialized equipment. Installs and repairs new and existing security, fire, and access control equipment to ensure proper operation. Requests parts, materials, and supplies. Manipulates IP addresses and has functional knowledge of Camera software and Ademco Software. Possesses knowledge of system types (Simplex, Siemens, Notifier, Ademco, Fire-Lite). Troubleshoots miscellaneous electrical systems (e.g., Verdin Clocks, emergency warning sirens). Installs pathways and spaces for low-voltage wiring; terminates and tests wires/cables (copper and fiber-optic); tests and troubleshoots cabling systems; installs communications and sound distribution systems; installs prefabricated systems (controllers, dimming, life/safety, and energy management). Performs testing, analysis, and repair of video, voice, and data systems. Adheres to safety rules and procedures when using tools and equipment. Reviews and makes recommendations to drawings, blueprints, and construction specifications. Participates in the training of apprentices and/or other workers as needed. Orders replacement parts and components as needed. Provides documentation for field work and assignments. Assists in providing work estimates on assigned projects. Available for emergency call-outs and overtime as required. May drive a vehicle as needed. Qualifications
Education/Work Experience High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED) and 5 years of verifiable journey-level experience OR Associate's degree and 2 years of verifiable journey-level experience Preferred 5 years verifiable journey-level experience Licenses and Certificates Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire Skills (Required) Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner Proficient communication skills Maintains a high degree of professionalism Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills Demonstrates a high commitment to quality Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty Highly thorough and dependable High level of accuracy, even under pressure Excellent organizational skills Ability to represent the company with external constituents Ability to drive multiple projects to successful completion Strong verbal communication and listening skills Ability to build strong customer relationships Knowledge of Microsoft Office and related applications Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to read blueprints and schematics Required to have necessary tools to perform work. Equipment includes computers, meters, stationary equipment, electrical test and measurement equipment, basic hand tools and specialized equipment May be required to acquire and maintain a material-specific abatement certification, supervisor certification, or other required certifications Ability to work with a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds Work Environment and Benefits
This role may require communication with colleagues, handling equipment, remaining stationary and ascending/descending ladders or stairs, and moving objects up to 50 pounds. It may involve color discernment and fine detail work. The role may require accommodation to perform essential functions.
