Sony Honda Mobility of America
IVI Software Diagnostics Engineer (Android Automotive)
Sony Honda Mobility of America, Los Angeles, California, United States, 90079
Overview
IVI Software Diagnostics Engineer (Android Automotive) role at Sony Honda Mobility of America. SHMA is seeking an IVI Diagnostics Engineer – Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) to accelerate bug-fix cycles for the Android Automotive–based AFEELA cockpit. The role involves transforming field-collected telemetry into clear, actionable defect reports to shorten issue resolution times and improve customer experience. It is a hands-on, multifaceted engineering role for triaging issues across vehicle, mobile, and cloud boundaries, identifying the most likely fault layer, and validating findings via reproduction on IVI benches and test vehicles. You’ll work across hardware, QNX, Linux, Android Automotive, and connected infotainment peripherals to isolate root causes and accelerate fixes. The ideal candidate is a T-shaped log analysis expert: broad enough to interpret logs end-to-end and deep enough to diagnose IVI-specific defects with concrete evidence.
Responsibilities
Conduct end-to-end triage of In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) issues across vehicle, mobile, and cloud boundaries to identify the most probable fault domain. Ingest and time-sync logs from Android, QNX, network traces, and user interactions; extract insights and document findings in Jira. Reproduce customer-reported symptoms on IVI benches and test vehicles; capture validation data to support engineering teams. Develop tools and dashboards for automated log analysis, anomaly detection, and trend reporting. Improve triage workflows by refining Jira templates, enhancing observability, and standardizing playbooks. Summarize findings in clear, actionable reports that accelerate root cause analysis and defect resolution.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field. 4+ years of experience debugging embedded, Linux, or Android systems, including at least 2 years on Android Automotive or AOSP platforms. Proven ability to analyze Android/QNX crash dumps, logcat output, and system logs. Deep understanding of Android internals (Binder IPC, HAL interfaces, media pipeline, system services). Hands-on experience diagnosing issues with Logcat and slog2. Strong Linux OS knowledge and familiarity with in-vehicle infotainment systems. Ability to correlate telemetry across Android, QNX, and hardware layers.
Preferred Qualifications Proficiency with tracing tools such as Perfetto or QNX System Profiler. Experience with software configuration management and version tracking. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated test environments. Ability to extract insights from incomplete or noisy log data. Knowledge of CAN/LIN/Ethernet vehicle networks and ECU diagnostics.
