Electrical Designer II – Austal USA Apply to join Austal USA as an Electrical Designer II. This role focuses on 2D and 3D drawing development and review of design outputs produced by CAD Drafters and Designers I.

Responsibilities

Develop 2D and 3D CAD drawings for shipboard systems.

Check drawings created by CAD Drafters and Designers I for accuracy and compliance with design standards.

Lead CAD Drafters and Designers I, determining technical adequacy of drawings and models.

Train CAD Drafters and Designers I‑III according to established standards and procedures.

Collaborate with Production Management and internal cross‑functional design teams.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree or higher in CAD preferred.

Minimum 2 years of 3D modeling experience and 3 to 6 years of shipyard design or production/construction experience.

Experience in construction of high‑speed aluminum vessels, modular construction methods, or U.S. Navy vessels preferred.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Strong scheduling discipline and ability to meet strict deadlines.

Computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office products.

Experienced in interacting with multiple design teams and members of production.

Proficient in 2D and 3D AutoCAD; basic draw and modify commands, layer types, line types, dimensions, unit of measure, orthographic views, 3D modeling commands, XREF interface, and interference‑free modeling.

Experience with ShipConstructor preferred.

Good understanding of design in areas such as Equipment, Electrical, Fitout, Foundations, Hull, HVAC, Material, Pipe, Product Hierarchy, Structure.

Ability to interpret system schematics, structural key plans, compartment arrangements, and electrical diagrams to create 3D CAD models.

Tools and Technology

Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, Navisworks.

Eligibility and Employment Guidelines

18 years of age or older at time of application.

Able to prove U.S. Person Status.

No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date.

No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date.

Willing to submit to a drug screen and a background check.

Work Environment and Safety

Exposure to humid conditions, bright flashing lights, moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, and extreme temperatures.

Possible contact with fumes and/or airborne particles; noise level typically above 90 dB.

Must comply with company, federal, state, and local safety and environmental rules and regulations.
