Job Summary Functions in a project engineering technician capacity. Under general direction, supports engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables. Applies foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions. Utilizes digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables. Provides technical guidance and may offer direction to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Standards : Applies knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures; reviews project requirements to determine the correct format and contents of deliverables.
Quality / Continuous Improvement : Proactively applies Black & Veatch Quality Program to deliverables; demonstrates personal accuracy and supports continuous improvement and change management; reviews design inputs for consistency; assists to ensure deliverables comply with codes and standards.
Engineering Production : Applies basic engineering principles and established design practices; begins to apply judgment and make decisions on deliverables; handles difficult technical assignments and can provide guidance; performs design calculations, material quantities, estimates, and records; may review others’ deliverables; may define work assignments and schedules; may program control systems or participate in start-up activities.
Project Coordination : Coordinates with design group personnel to exchange project information; may support field activities.
Client Focus : Focuses on internal clients while understanding external client interests and drivers.
Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology : Proactively seeks and shares knowledge of latest technologies and processes; applies judgment in deliverable interpretation.
People Management : May assist with performance management, mentoring, and guidance to lesser experienced engineers/technicians.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications : Diploma or Certificate; Associate Degree in Drafting or Engineering Design Technology preferred; typically a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
Technical Skills : Experience with CAD or other electronic design tools; preferred software includes Bentley OpenBuildings, AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation 2D/3D, and Bluebeam; intermediate knowledge of engineering standards, document control, and related procedures; basic knowledge of construction, engineering design principles, procurement, and contract administration.
Non-Technical Skills : Learning on the Fly, Problem Solving, Time Management, Drive for Results, Self Development, Listening, Informing, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Typically a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
