Overview Thorlabs is a leading manufacturer of photonics components and systems that empower scientific research and industrial innovation. This position works in a team that manufactures Photonics products for customers, focusing on kitting, assembling, and in-process measurements.

Responsibilities

Able to work in a production area with medium difficulty processes.

Prepare batches by kitting necessary components and preparing materials such as epoxies.

Intermediate assembly of products using mechanical fasteners and epoxies.

Visual, optical, and mechanical measurement of parts using metrology devices including hand tools, microscopes, optical power meters, beam profilers, polarimeters, and interferometers.

Perform alignment of components using alignment jigs, visual indicators, and laser test stations.

Package products to be ready for the next process step or final customer.

Assist with training less experienced team members.

Highlight issues and participate in troubleshooting efforts.

Cross train to work in multiple production areas.

Handle and clean specialty fiber optics, precision optics, and mechanical components.

Sort and count parts and materials.

Examine parts and materials for defects.

Understand written work instructions and technical drawings to manufacture the final product to the highest quality with a goal of zero scrap or rework.

Maintain proper records in our Manufacturing Database.

Participate in Continuous Improvement efforts.

Comply with the company safety program and maintain a clean and organized work area.

Additional Duties

Meet company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis.

Adhere to company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.

Physical Activities Work may involve active standing or sitting for long durations and repetitive work at times. The employee may lift or move objects up to 20 pounds. Employees must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. The noise level is usually moderate but may be noisy at times. Must be able to wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment such as masks, glasses, gloves, and specialty garments.

Requirements Experience Minimum of 4 years of manufacturing experience and related technical education.

Education High School Diploma or equivalent.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and comply with high quality standards.

Good work ethic.

Strong attention to detail.

Strong ability to shift from one task to another to address changing production priorities.

Basic mathematic knowledge.

Proficient in basic computer skills such as Microsoft Office.

Other Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations.

Compensation The hourly rate for this position is $19.30 - $24.15 DOE.
