Manufacturing Engineer II - Optical Fiber Cabling – Newton, NJ. This position is responsible for the daily support of the Optical Fiber Cabling area and completing projects related to the assigned area. Key goals are product quality, on-time delivery, schedule attainment, and profit optimization. From time to time, duties at other Thorlabs locations may be required. Essential Job Functions

Knowledge of fiber optic cabling manufacturing (splicing, connectorizing, polishing) and metrology skills to provide daily support Data collection and analysis using centralized database system for Statistical Process Control Problem solving: identify problems and provide solutions for manufacturing issues Create, plan and manage fiber and cabling projects Participate in design reviews with design engineering to discuss procedures and potential issues prior to production release Develop new processes and equipment in support of R&D and Product Development Training and collaboration with production personnel to improve manufacturing and testing processes Collaborate with RMA and service departments to inspect and disposition customer returns; assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions Collaborate with assembly to update manufacturing documentation Create jigs and fixtures to improve production efficiency and reduce damage/waste Maintain production routing steps and timing for new and existing products Stay current with new manufacturing techniques and identify opportunities to implement Requirements

Experience: Minimum 3 years in a related field or equivalent education Education: Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent Basic computer skills; experience with 3D modeling, drafting, and/or GD&T (SolidWorks a plus) Experience with programming software and databases for modeling and manufacturing applications (e.g., MATLAB, LabVIEW, Visual Basic, Access a plus) Experience with quality improvement tools (Lean, Six Sigma, Process Control, FMEA) Technical knowledge in Optics, Fiber Optics, or Opto-Mechanics Experience with metrology equipment (calipers, microscopes, interferometers, spectrophotometers) Hands-on lab/manufacturing experience; ability to work well in a team and maintain high quality standards; attention to detail Flexibility US Person — Able to work on ITAR restricted projects Pay

Base pay range: $88,500.00/yr - $93,942.00/yr Benefits
