This is a high-level position that involves receiving and interpreting specifications, developing price quotes, designing customized equipment, providing customer support, and promoting Orenco's electrical equipment. The role emphasizes PLC programming and related automation tasks, including designing and testing equipment for various applications.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Design/Programming: Develop codes for programmable logic devices and Orenco SCADA systems; develop code for HMI systems; design networked systems using Modbus RTU, TCP/IP; draft and design electrical panel schematics based on customer specifications; write and review installation procedures for electrical equipment configurations.
Test/Monitor Production: Check finished layouts, test panels for defects and proper operation, safely test equipment up to 480VAC 3 phase; file panel construction details for future reference.
Quoting: Interpret customer specifications, determine needs, develop product and price quotes; obtain price quotes for custom components; coordinate with Purchasing to ensure timely ordering of components.
Customer Service: Provide ongoing support throughout sales, manufacturing, and installation; communicate with customers by phone and writing; travel to job sites as needed for startups, field modifications, troubleshooting, or supporting Sales/Systems Engineering; promote and demonstrate Orenco panels to distributors, OEMs, contractors and regulators; conduct Seminars for stakeholders on proper use and installation.
Research: Stay updated on Orenco products and industry trends; keep informed on NEC and UL requirements relevant to control panels and pump installations.
Product Development: Engage in research, prototype development, testing, and documentation; assist in installation of in-house electrical equipment; review catalogs and specs to recommend products; participate in team meetings to improve service quality.
Other: Regular attendance and training of team members as needed; other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor of Science in Controls, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
Experience: At least five years in electrical controls engineering.
Technical skills: Advanced proficiency in developing, modifying, and troubleshooting Siemens PLCs (S7-1200, S7-1500, etc.) using TIA Portal; familiarity with HMI configuration, communication protocols, and standard programming practices; experience with Allen-Bradley Studio 5000/RSLogix or other PLC environments is preferred; high level of expertise with PLCs, ladder logic, motors, and industrial controls; proficiency with HMI programming.
Soft skills: Professional, courteous communication; ability to work with diverse backgrounds; strong organizational skills; flexibility to adapt to changing priorities; good driving record and valid driver’s license.
Other: Proficiency with CAD; wastewater treatment knowledge; instrumentation; spreadsheet and word processing software; marketing/sales experience is a plus.

Tools/Equipment: CAD, computer, Microsoft Office, multimeter, hand tools, phone/intercom, shop equipment.
Working Conditions: Office environment with travel to off-site locations as necessary.

Compensation and Status
Salary: $80,000 – $115,000 per year
