Job Description-
The Advanced Quality Engineer works closely with the Engineering, Purchasing, and Production departments on the development and introduction of new products. The Advanced Quality Engineer leads advanced quality planning activities, ensuring customer-driven design criteria are effectively realized through robust engineering and manufacturing processes that minimize post-launch quality costs.
Essential Responsibilities
Lead, facilitate, and execute advanced product quality planning (AIAG APQP) activities in direct support of new product development (NPD) programs
Serve as core team member of new product development team and ensure that program goals, including quality and reliability, are met
Develop APQP plans for NPD programs; ensure that resources are obtained as required from Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Suppliers, and other related functions
Participate in design reviews and assist design engineers in identifying product improvements, key product characteristics, necessary process controls and product validation tests
Drive traceability of critical parameter management (CPM) from customer-focused, critical-to-quality requirements down to critical feature control plans supporting expected process capabilities
Assist Supplier Quality Engineer with APQP and PPAP activities for external suppliers
Drive in-house validation testing of form, fit, and function for new components and/or new suppliers
Develop early launch containment (ELC) plans for new products and manage containment activities through interaction with cross-functional team; develop and implement root cause corrective actions and revised control methods as required
Assist project teams in the proper and consistent use design and process failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and resulting control plans so that high risk items are proactively identified and mitigated in the product and process development stages
Work closely with Quality Engineers to ensure prompt and accurate communication of failure modes back to R&D team through updates to FMEA records
Develop and manage relationships with program leaders, design teams, production teams, and others to ensure consistent application of advanced quality planning methods and to foster a culture of customer-oriented problem solving at an organizational level
Key Competencies
Demonstrated experience with project management and team leadership is required
Strong working knowledge of FMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, PPAP, part prints, and related quality tools
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with strong leadership, project management, team building, time management, and presentation skills
Strong PC skills and advanced functional knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, design-related software, statistical-based software
Must be self-motivated and goal-oriented, with a strong personal drive for success
Qualifications
Associate degree in a technical field, or relevant experience in lieu thereof
5+ years of experience in manufacturing plants, with strong preference for that time spent in Quality Engineer roles
Frequent hands-on experience and familiarity with one or more certified Quality Management System(s)
Experience developing and/or implementing PPAP system(s) and QMS(s) in a manufacturing organization is a strong plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills Seniority level
