to join our Land Planning & Landscape Architecture Department to work on a variety of projects for clients within the commercial, residential, industrial, and mixed-use private development sector. This opportunity is open to our Baltimore office with the expectation of some travel to other Dewberry offices.
The ideal candidate will be a curious, highly motivated, detail-oriented individual with a proven track record of design and construction expertise that will join a team of outstanding professionals. They will need to execute and deliver tasks and services on time and on budget in the execution of projects from Concept to Construction Administration.

Responsibilities The work required is diverse and ranges from land planning, landscape architecture, and urban design, including various landscape architectural typologies (gardens, parks, trails, plazas, site planning, etc.) to renewable energy work (ground mount solar, EV charging, solar canopies, etc.). Work may include a similar range of projects, from preparing entitlement documents and presentations to technical work that requires advanced knowledge in planning and design. The ideal candidate will complement the current team by providing additional detailed landscape architecture and urban design experience. Candidates are encouraged to pursue the professional development pathway that is most fulfilling to them, whether technical and subject matter expert, project management, or some blend of both.
Deliver projects that meet technical requirements on time and within budget both client and project deadlines
Prepare construction drawings, including crafting details, write specifications sections, and coordinate with engineers and vendors to incorporate appropriate technical requirements
Coordinate project submittals, facilitate regulatory agency approvals, and obtain construction permits
Assist with marketing and proposal efforts and project management duties as well as oversee, train and mentor junior/mid-level staff by delegating tasks for project execution
Communicate effectively with clients, coworkers, subconsultants, and county/state agency review staff both verbally and written
Conduct site inspections and deliver reports and punch lists
Attend public meetings and represent the company at other events as needed
Work in a timely fashion to meet project budgets
Prepare or review graphics, exhibits, and landscape architecture plans and computations
Compose technical reports, memorandums, and other verbal and written communication
Assign tasks and review work (QA/QC) by less experienced landscape architects/planners
Apply independent judgement on non‑routine assignments, and provide feedback and guidance by applying advanced concepts, practices, and procedures
Work with staff and Department Manager; attend client and public meetings to address project inquiries answer questions, and provide updates on project approvals and permits
Other duties as required.
Required Skills & Required Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture or Architecture by an accredited 3rd party (LAAB)
5+ years of progressive experience directly related to design and construction of land development projects in landscape architecture and/or urban design and planning
Experience in Conceptual Design through Construction Documents; Construction Administration skills a plus
Facility in Urban Design: Downtown revitalization; programming; public space system design; retail/restaurant needs; integrating transportation; high performance/complete streets; streetscape design; form‑based code knowledge a plus
Experience in range of landscape architecture projects, e.g. civic buildings, commercial residential, and institutional—and their associated landscapes
Practice Skills: Site planning (integration of parking, roads, buildings, walks, public landscapes, etc.); grading (must be solid); conceptual stormwater management understanding; woody plant identification repertoire of at least 30 trees and 30 shrubs; landscape detailing (drawing one’s own details, specifying performance requirements, collaborating with structural/civil engineers)
CAD proficiency
Graphic Skills: Single‑line hand‑drawing of plans and sections; electronically‑produced diagrams (InDesign, Adobe, Bluebeam); 3D electronic rendering (Photoshop, Rhino, etc.); 3D hand‑drawn rendering a plus (line drawing base, rendered via watercolor/pencils/marker)
Ability to compile reports and narratives accompanying regulatory submissions toward project approvals to AHJs (local and state)
Strong strategizing/conceptual skills
