Job Summary: The Clinical Nurse B * Inpatient utilizes discretion and independent judgment to provide, coordinate, and document age-specific and developmentally appropriate, quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Performs the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) according to LLUMC's Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory). Embraces new knowledge, innovations, and improvements in practice, applying theoretical concepts to clinical practice. Demonstrates self-motivation to continually expand knowledge and clinical skills, focusing on the area of specialty and patient population served. Exhibits professionalism and interpersonal skills that maximize excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Functions in a skills mix environment, supervising and delegating tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff. Meets qualifications, licensure, certifications, and competencies as outlined in the unit/department-specific Plan for Providing Care. Promotes a caring and cooperative work environment among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. May participate in on-call rotation and serve as Shift Coordinator upon completion of orientation. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) required. If hired into the CN-B position before April 1, 2020, an Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing is required. A minimum of one year of experience is required. New hires may be promoted to CN-C classification upon meeting criteria outlined in the Clinical Nurse Ladder handbook and job specifications.
Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrates basic clinical nursing competencies. Applies theoretical concepts to practice and continually expands knowledge and skills, focusing on the area of specialty and patient population. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation is required. Exhibits professional behavior, remains calm under pressure, and responds courteously. Skills include effective communication in English (Spanish preferred), proficiency with computer software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical records), troubleshooting patient care equipment, performing technical activities, leadership, critical thinking, independent work, multitasking, organization, problem-solving, and attention to detail. Ability to distinguish colors, smells, and temperature variances as necessary for patient care. Adequate hearing and vision for the position are required.
Licensures and Certifications: Active California RN license and BLS certification from the American Heart Association are required. Additional certifications as specified in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care.
