The UCI School of Medicine's Hospitalist Program focuses on clinical care, education, improvement in quality of care and patient safety in the hospital environment. Your Role on the Team
The Physician Assistant (PA) in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine & Palliative Medicine, requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in Hospital Medicine. Under the supervision of Alpesh Amin, MD and guided by the applicable policies and procedures, the PA will participate in the comprehensive care of patients in ambulatory or inpatient settings and provide multi-disciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians. A PA is an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) who possesses the advanced education, knowledge, and clinical skills necessary to provide healthcare services. This position may perform functions as appropriate to their scope of practice (management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per their approved practice agreement). Credentialing and privileges are required prior to the first working day. The PA is credentialed and privileged through Medical Staff to function in their clinical role and is accountable to the supervising/collaborating physician, physician designee in the same clinical specialty, or the Administrative Manager. What It Takes to be Successful
Required: Possess clear understanding of core internal medicine principles. Knowledge of the elements of a medical history and skill in the history-taking process. Expertise and appropriate physical exam skills. Demonstrated experience in review and use of standard protocols for Hospital Medicine patients. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System. Ability to exercise diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with physicians, nurses, other paramedical personnel, administrators, emergency and law enforcement officers. Customer service skills appropriate to the job and ability to clearly communicate medical information to a broad variety of people, both in person and over the phone. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data, and progress notes. Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload. Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment and procedures. Demonstrates understanding of and adherence to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies related to PHI or other sensitive information. Qualifications and Licensure
Completed physician assistant training program accredited by the ARC-PA. California licensure as a physician assistant and an active National Provider Identifier (NPI); meet current Medicare requirements for billing. Current DEA Registration (Schedules 2-5). Current BLS and ACLS certifications. Evidence of completion of Controlled Substances Education Course per California Code of Regulations Sections 1399.610 and 1399.612. National board certification by NCCPA at the time of initial appointment. Experience with patients undergoing single and combined modality treatment plans. Preferred: Multilingual abilities. Special Conditions: Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire. Provide documentation of provision of care (# and type of cases/procedures performed) during the past 24 months, representative of the scope and complexity of the privileges requested.
