About the UCI School of Medicine Founded in 1998, the UCI School of Medicine's Hospitalist Program is one of the nation's first, focusing on clinical care, education, quality improvement, and patient safety in the hospital environment. The program includes specialists in internal medicine, pediatrics, family medicine, geriatrics, infectious diseases, palliative care, perioperative medicine, preventive medicine, pediatric infectious diseases, and pulmonary/critical care medicine at UCI Medical Center in Orange. The program is recognized for its innovative approaches to quality-of-care improvement and patient safety, with UCI Medical Center ranking among the best in the country.

Your Role on the Team The Physician Assistant (PA) in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine & Palliative Medicine, is a highly competent, independent, yet team-oriented individual immersed in Hospital Medicine. Under supervision, the PA participates in comprehensive patient care in ambulatory or inpatient settings, providing multidisciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and physicians. The PA is an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) with advanced education, clinical skills, and experience to deliver nursing care in their specialty.

Key Responsibilities

Manage chronic stable medical conditions, routine, acute, or critical care, and perform medical/surgical procedures within scope of practice.

Familiarity with state statutes for licensure.

Provide patient care across age groups, ensuring standards of care, and demonstrating self-direction and accountability.

Credentialed and privileged through Medical Staff prior to employment.

Supervised and evaluated by the supervising physician or designee.

Serve adult population.

Minimum Qualifications

Understanding of core internal medicine principles.

Experience with medical history, physical exams, and standard protocols for Hospital Medicine.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Completion of an ARC-PA accredited PA program.

California Physician Assistant licensure, NPI, DEA registration, BLS, ACLS, and NCCPA certification.

Experience with treatment plans involving multiple modalities.

Preferred Qualifications

Multilingual abilities.

Additional Conditions

Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Privileges.

Documentation of care provision in the past 24 months.
