Mechanical Design Engineer Summer - Fall 2026 Co-op (North Carolina State University)
Location: Wendell, NC (within 50 miles of Wendell, NC). The program begins in May 2026 and includes Summer and Fall 2026 semesters.
Overview Siemens Smart Infrastructure is looking for interns in its Electrification and Automation division to support protection and automation products. Applicants will assist in project design tasks, operations, product development, special projects and process improvements.
Responsibilities
Model designs using 3D NX CAD and 2D AutoCAD Electrical.
Work on team improvement projects focused on process documentation and work instructions.
Design new parts for prototypes with support of senior members and update existing parts to improve designs.
Support prototype builds with senior members and JT files.
Provide production and lab support on product assembly.
Qualifications Basic Qualifications
Current undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field at North Carolina State University.
Candidate must be enrolled with the NCSU co-op program and cannot graduate prior to December 2026.
Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
Eligible candidates must be located within 50 miles of Wendell, NC as this role does not provide housing or relocation support.
On-site requirement will vary based on team placement – as will expected working hours.
Ability to work full-time during the Summer and Fall 2026 semesters.
Preferred Qualifications
3D modeling/drafting experience (Solidworks, AutoCAD, NX).
Mechanical design knowledge and basic electrical concept knowledge.
Ability to prioritize work and meet project deadlines.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with MS office products with proficiency in MS works, Excel and PowerPoint.
