Engineering (Roadway Equipment) Management Trainee 2026 – Join to apply for the Engineering (Roadway Equipment) Management Trainee 2026 role at BNSF Railway. This role provides hands-on fieldwork to learn about the operation, maintenance, and strategic deployment of our fleet of engineering machinery, under the guidance of experienced engineers. The experience aims to accelerate professional growth in railway engineering and open doors to future leadership positions. Location: Fort Worth. Other potential locations: Brainerd, MN; Fort Worth, TX. Anticipated Start Date: 2/9/2026, 6/1/2026, or 9/21/2026. Number of Positions: 1. Salary: $80,000. Travel and relocation are required; after the 6-month program, candidates must be flexible with location and may be moved based on business needs. Travel up to 75% of the time. This is a full-time (40 hrs/wk) position in a 24x7 operations environment, subject to on-call, overtime, nights, alternating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Assist in supervising the Maintenance and Roadway Equipment forces and coordinate repairs and maintenance of roadway equipment. Maintain roadway equipment to acceptable preventive maintenance standards within budget. Participate in safety, quality, technical, and other required training for Roadway Equipment Team Members. Supervise compliance with the preventive maintenance program. Address and resolve equipment safety and ergonomic concerns through appropriate channels. Assist traveling mechanics in troubleshooting equipment problems. Define and develop new methods, components, and work processes to improve safety, quality, and reliability of roadway equipment. Review and approve purchases, material requisitions, and daily time entry of assigned employees. Spend time at the Brainerd Roadway Equipment shop to understand its impact on the BNSF Engineering Department. Daily work is conducted in a safety-sensitive environment with varying weather, uneven surfaces, loud noises, fumes, and heavy machinery. Basic Qualifications
Legally authorized to work in the United States and at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license (or able to obtain one upon hire). Do not require sponsorship for employment authorization now or in the future. Capable of working in a 24/7 environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and able to travel up to 75%. Willing to relocate anywhere within the BNSF operating system (western 28 states) upon hire or career progression. Pursuing a Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, etc.), Construction Management, Business, or a related field to be completed prior to hire, or have a degree in a related program. Have a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA. Have less than three years of professional work experience or military service (excluding internships/part-time roles). Reliable transportation to and from work. Prior internship experience or less than 3 years of work experience in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, Construction, Logistics, or related fields. Experience in leadership roles within campus, community, or extracurricular organizations. Benefits
