The successful candidate will be part of a team that provides design support for large and small-scale substation engineering projects. This is an excellent growth opportunity for a self-directed individual who wants to learn and take on new challenges. In the role of Senior Substation Electrical Engineer, we'll count on you to:
Develop a partnership with a PM, where the PM is responsible for scope, schedule, budget, and client management, and the EM/TL is responsible for leading the technical team and execution of project deliverables.
Develop and implement a project execution plan for the technical aspect of projects.
Assign project tasks and provide technical guidance to project team members.
Support the technical aspect of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development and implementation, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.
Work with local area and practice leadership to hire, mentor, train, and/or supervise a team of Project Engineers, EITs, or CADD/Designers.
Coordinate and/or perform quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables per HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures to deliver a world-class quality product to the client. Perform quality checks and/or reviews of projects from other teams as needed.
Lead multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.
Work with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise; attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to the discipline.
May assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR's technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
Participate in project reviews as needed.
Due to client contract requirements, US-born citizenship is required.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
A minimum of 10 years of experience
Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., PE or P.Eng)
Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)
Active participation in HDR's employee-owned culture
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
10+ years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects up to 500 kV, including conceptual knowledge of physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components, and knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, and other applicable design and equipment standards
Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, regional, department, technical managers and project staff
Experience using industry standard design software
Proficient with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms (Zoom, WebEx, Teams, etc.)
Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and collaboration skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Some travel may be required
Preference given to local candidates
