Project Manager - Landscape Architecture

Position Purpose
The Project Manager will be a keystone of the Planning + Design Group. A qualified candidate will be responsible for interfacing with clients in both the public and private sectors; collaborating with other design professionals; and managing projects in our key sectors including residential, commercial, institutional, municipal, parks & recreation, and urban design. The Landscape Architecture Practice / Project Manager actively contributes to advancing the public and private sector markets and approaches projects with design excellence and enthusiasm. A team member in this role is expected to successfully manage all phases of work, including production of high-quality designs and documentations, organizing workflow, and coordinating project and staff resources.
Key Responsibilites
Technical
Collect, analyze and present data
Conduct field observations from project inception through construction administration
Analyze technical aspects of a project to anticipate project challenges and develop alternative and innovative solutions within the established project budget
Interpret and apply development ordinances and codes to designs and facilitate development approval
Write design specifications and other technical documents including design guidelines and project narratives
Assist Practice Lead with generating fee proposals
Participate in project pursuits including responses to RFQ/RFPs and project interviews
Produce high-quality site master plans, construction documents, bid packages and cost estimates with limited direction
Complete work accurately with design innovation
Deliver presentations to the general public, stakeholders, municipal staff, and elected officials
Lead project landscape architectural design which often entails mentoring and directing younger staff
Conduct QA/QC review of design and technical documents
Implement company design standards throughout the project process
Interpersonal
Contribute leadership and enthusiasm for landscape architecture and design excellence to the Planning + Design team.
Contribute to the team culture by establishing and achieving overall goals, ensuring production efficiency, and maintaining a vibrant working environment
Actively participate in industry organizations
Attend conferences and events, including internal engagements
Focus on business development by maintaining healthy relationships with our strong public and private client base and identify opportunities to develop relationships with potential clients
Maintain and contribute to healthy relationships with teams throughout the organization as well as with our clients, municipal staff, governing bodies, and professional organizations
Demonstrate excellent written, oral, and visual communication skills
Exemplify commitment to quality, accuracy, and visual excellence
Management
Secure and manage successful, profitable projects
Coordinate with clients to establish project scope, budget, objectives and schedule
Manage projects by coordinating with the client, directing the design process, and coordinating the design team, which may include other disciplines and subconsultants
Develop project strategies to ensure schedules, budgets, objectives and deliverables are met on time and within budget
Provide support and mentorship to lesser experienced team members
Provide leadership for professional growth of designated team members
Candidates should provide work samples / portfolio electronically when submitting their resume.
Provide a digital portfolio illustrating relevant experience and competency in the field of landscape architecture. Projects should have been developed with minimal oversight and demonstrate technical proficiency and delivery of a concept from project inception through construction administration.
A supporting narrative demonstrating capabilities to articulate design and communicate objectives is desirable.
Skills + Experience
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program
RLA licensure (NC preferred)
10+ years (preferred) of working experience in the field of landscape architecture
Demonstrated expertise in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suites (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.) and Sketch-up
Strong desire to serve clients in a variety of market sectors
Possess strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Strong written and oral communications skills are required
Eager to engage in our creative and dynamic work environment
Energetic, self-directed and success focused
Ability to multi-task, communicate schedule and progress on assigned tasks
Ability to manage contractual and financial components of projects
Ability to manage project teams regarding project delivery and professional growth of team members
Ability for limited travel required
