This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan three times per week, at minimum. The Role This role offers a unique opportunity to join a highly collaborative team dedicated to advancing battery cell design and performance through cutting-edge simulation technologies. The primary focus is on developing and applying 3D CFD models to drive design decisions, reduce reliance on physical testing, and accelerate innovation in battery cell technology. What You'll Do Advanced CFD Simulation Development Design and implement innovative 3D CFD simulations targeting battery cell components, including microstructure-level analysis and thermal uniformity studies. Integrate CFD models with electrochemical models to capture multi-physics interactions and improve predictive accuracy. Optimize cell geometry and material configurations to enhance thermal performance, safety, and manufacturability. Conduct parametric studies and sensitivity analyses to support robust, data-driven design recommendations. Validate simulation results using experimental cell data and refine models to improve accuracy. Collaborate with testing teams to enhance test protocols that support model development and calibration. Document simulation methodologies, results, and insights in clear, comprehensive technical reports. Present findings and design recommendations to cross-functional teams, including Process and Design Responsible Engineers. Lead initiatives to expand simulation capabilities, including physics fidelity, DFMEA-relevant load case development, and analysis time reduction through automation Benchmark and evaluate emerging industry technologies in hardware and virtual tools to inform internal strategy. Develop and maintain automation tools and workflows using Python, Java, or equivalent programming languages to streamline simulation processes. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and peers. Foster a collaborative environment across simulation, design, and testing teams. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) Bachelor of Science in Engineering 5+ years of experience with CFD simulations Deep technical expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), with hands-on experience in 3D modeling and simulation. Strong understanding of battery systems, cell architecture, and multi-scale/multi-dimensional modeling. Familiarity with various battery modeling techniques, including equivalent circuit models, reduced-order models, and physics-based models. Proficiency in simulation tools such as STAR-CCM+, COMSOL, or similar. Programming experience in Python, Java, or equivalent for automation and tool development.
