About the job We’re seeking a
Instrumentation and Control Engineer
to support automation and control systems at a U.S. production facility. This role provides the opportunity to ensure reliable and safe operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing the plant’s control systems, while also partnering with IT, engineering, and maintenance teams to drive long-term improvements. The position combines hands-on plant support with system design, documentation, and compliance responsibilities - making it ideal for an engineer who enjoys both technical problem-solving and strategic influence on site wide automation practices. Responsibilities: Automation & Troubleshooting:
Support and maintain PLCs, HMIs, sensors, relays, solenoids, and remote I/O devices. Assist maintenance teams with troubleshooting electrical, PLC, pneumatic circuits, and other automated systems to meet production and safety targets. Urgent Response:
Respond quickly to breakdowns and emergency work orders, working alongside maintenance personnel to restore safe and efficient operations. Compliance & Safety:
Ensure all control systems comply with regulatory requirements, including SIL/LOPA assessments, PSM, and DHS standards. Documentation & Drawings:
Maintain and update electrical and instrument drawings (motor elementaries, loop sheets), PLC programs, and machine control documentation in both electronic and paper formats. Knowledge Sharing:
Mentor and provide guidance to technicians and technical staff on automation strategies, installations, and best practices. IT/OT Partnership:
Collaborate internally and with external vendors to support plant IT and OT infrastructure, network communication, and cybersecurity for industrial control systems. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field. Minimum 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Rockwell Automation
systems. Strong understanding of IT and OT communication protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850, OPC, OPC UA, PROFINET), with ability to perform packet analysis. Knowledge of threats, vulnerabilities, and exploits in ICS environments, with understanding of mitigation techniques. Familiarity with
regulatory compliance
for ICS, including PSM and DHS requirements. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organisation. Work Environment & Physical Demands: Ability to work safely around dust, chemicals, high pressure, high temperature, loud noises, and running equipment. Must be able to wear PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
