ENGINEER 6-DCL (Mechanical or Electrical Engineer)
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical or Electrical Engineer to join their team as an ENGINEER 6-DCL. Two years of licensed engineering experience, which includes possession of an electrical or mechanical engineering license plus one year of experience in design or maintenance of electrical or mechanical systems (pumping systems, gear systems, piping systems, control systems, backup power systems, etc.); OR Six years of professional engineering experience, which includes four years of professional level electrical or mechanical engineering experience in design or maintenance of electrical or mechanical systems (pumping systems, gear systems, piping systems, control systems, backup power systems, etc.) About This Job : The selected candidate will serve as a leader and departmental authority in either a broad area of engineering or in a narrow but intensely specialized field of engineering. The candidate will be responsible for designing and developing plans, specifications, and construction estimates for complex systems of statewide LA DOTD movable bridge, tunnel, and pump station repair projects. 40% Design of Repairs and Rehabilitations of Systems for Statewide Movable Bridges, Tunnels, and Pump Stations : Designs and develops plans, specifications, and construction estimates for complex systems of statewide LA DOTD movable bridge, tunnel, and pump station repair projects. 30% Construction and Maintenance Related Engineering Services : Reviews/approves all equipment submittals and shop drawings related to the work designed. Provides engineering support during construction to District Project Engineers/Inspectors on construction issues related to the systems designed. 15% Consultants Contracts and Review : Assists with the development of the mechanical and electrical consultant contract. Reviews construction documents prepared by private consultants for movable bridge, tunnel, and pump station projects to insure the plans meet the requirements of the consultant contract. 10% Miscellaneous Duties : Designs and develops PS&Es for commercial building systems. Assists the Statewide Bridge Maintenance and District Maintenance sections with field inspections of movable bridge structures that were damaged either by collision or a catastrophic event. 5% Other Duties : May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities. Minimum Qualifications : Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following: Two years of licensed engineering experience; or Six years of professional engineering experience. Experience Substitutions : A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of professional engineering experience. A doctorate degree in engineering will substitute for two years of professional engineering experience.
