Construction Engineer
Location(s):
Client’s service territory in south Louisiana
The construction engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities related to substation and transmission line construction projects across the client’s service territory in south Louisiana. This individual must display a high degree of professionalism, organization and cooperation with customers and co-workers. This position is partially in the field and may require travel.
Required Education/Experience Included but not limited to:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent industry-related experience) from an accredited university – engineering, engineering management, construction management, or project management disciplines
Ten (10) + years of equivalent industry-related experience in engineering, construction, and/or electric power industry
Experience in project scheduling, reporting, and administration
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Attention to detail and commitment to quality and professionalism
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Knowledge and experience with project management processes and tools
Strong understanding of project lifecycles
Excellent computer skills
Familiarity with various scheduling techniques
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively with competing priorities and stressful situations
Must have a current and valid driver’s license
Job Responsibilities The construction engineer (CE) will be engaged in the project from the initiation / definition phase through final commissioning and closeout. Below is list of activities / deliverables the CE may be involved in throughout the life cycle of a project from initiation to final commissioning and closeout. Project scopes vary as will the roles of the CE for each project.
Assist Construction Manager in managing capital projects through the entire life cycle from definition to closeout
Participate as a member of project teams to develop project scope, project cost estimate, project schedule
Attend site field/scope visits as required
Assist Project Manager / Project Controls in developing schedule, including critical paths
Develop detailed construction plans and identify outage requirements to implement new facilities
Identify required construction permits and engage ROW and/or Environmental departments as needed
Develop detailed construction estimates
Work with Entergy stakeholders such as major accounts, Customer Service, local distribution networks, and area substation groups regarding outages that affect external/internal customers
Develop construction contract bid packages; review responses and participate in vendor selection
Develop bid package/RFP
Conduct pre-bid meeting with contractors
Participate in design constructability reviews for all disciplines (site, foundation, electrical & relay, T-Line) to identify and minimize change orders during the construction phase
Identifies and addresses potential project safety hazards and environmental concerns
Responsible for monitoring and routine reporting on project construction schedule and cost
Perform quality assurance checks during construction
Ensure productivity tracker tool is updated daily
Monitor schedule and progress versus requested in service date
Responsible for closeout of construction contracts and as-built documentation
Monitors that all Entergy procedures and processes are followed so that we will comply with all regulatory requirements
Coordinate with commissioning engineer to ensure all required documentation/testing is performed
