The Facilities Management Department at Mount Holyoke College is looking for a dedicated
HVAC Supervisor and Engineer
to join the team. This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, cooling, and fire suppression systems, including hot water and steam heating systems, chilled water cooling systems, underground steam piping, refrigeration systems, and computerized building automation controls. The HVAC Supervisor and Engineer oversees the Central Chilled Water Plant and ensures the daily operation and maintenance of the Central Heating Plant’s boilers, pumps, temperature control systems, and boiler water treatment, along with preventative maintenance on associated equipment. Mount Holyoke College is also dedicated to funding certification hours and license renewal. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manage and work alongside a team of licensed steamfitters to oversee all aspects of HVAC operations across campus. Plan and manage projects in collaboration with the HVAC team and Central Heating Plant. Oversee all sprinkler systems across 46+ buildings, ensuring proper maintenance and handling emergency calls 24/7. Conduct annual flushing and maintenance of fire hydrants to support life safety compliance. Work with contractors annually to ensure all 1,100+ fire extinguishers meet code requirements. Oversee yearly maintenance of safety valves across campus. Operate and maintain the Central Heating Plant in compliance with Massachusetts CMR 522 Board of Boiler Rules, ensuring safe and efficient operations. Review and log daily readings of gas fuel, steam generation, domestic water usage, and calculate plant efficiency to meet state environmental regulations. Monitor smoke opacity alarms in compliance with D.E.P. requirements. Respond to emergencies involving natural gas, electricity, fuel oil, high-pressure steam, compressed air, and domestic water. Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors for repairs and oversee their work as needed. Perform necessary repairs and mechanical work during the annual summer shutdown in accordance with M.C.L-522 CMR. Ensure 24/7 shift coverage to maintain continuous plant operations. Required Qualifications
Massachusetts Second Class Steam Engineer License. Minimum 5 years operating and maintaining HVAC systems and building automation systems. Minimum 4 years in a modern power plant, including turbine generator operations and routine boiler maintenance. Strong knowledge of power plant auxiliary equipment operation and maintenance. Journeyman sprinkler fitter license Pipefitter license Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a variety of people. Capable of handling and moving heavy materials, lift up to 50 lbs. Willingness to adjust hours and be available for emergency call-ins. Ability to work overtime as needed. Must have a valid driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications

Hiring Range:
