Under general supervision, is responsible for the operation, maintenance, adjustments, testing and repair of steam power plant, air conditioning, chiller plant, fire protection systems, electro-mechanical building equipment and related auxiliary systems in public buildings; performs related work. Responsibilities

Operates, maintains, repairs and adjusts manuals and automatic gas and oil fired boilers, furnaces, steam reducing stations, engines, turbines, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, generators, motors, water treatment systems, cooling towers, condensers, evaporators, emergency generators and associated equipment for heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and lighting in public buildings. Performs periodic inspections of equipment and repairs of such equipment. Schedules, performs and may oversee preventive maintenance. Directs the work of oilers, high-pressure plant tenders and other subordinate personnel assigned to HVAC plant operations. Takes responsible charge of a watch and while so engaged, supervises and directs subordinate personnel; addresses emergency repairs as required. Operates control consoles in control rooms for building maintenance and building automation systems. Adjusts HVAC systems water chemistry through testing, treatment, retesting and recording of readings. Prepares requisitions for materials and spare parts in accordance with College procedures. Orients, trains and monitors subordinates and other personnel on plant operations and job related safety. Reads meters, gauges and other recording devices keeping logs of same. Prepares and maintains records and makes reports of both a technical and informational nature regarding HVAC maintenance and repair. Contract Title

Brooklyn College is accepting applications for a Stationary Engineer (Temporary) in the HVAC Department (Heating Plant, Chiller plant, Field Service). Standard shift assignments are 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm and 11pm-7am. Actual shift assignments are determined per college needs. Note: All applicants must have applied to take the civil service exam for Stationary Engineer (CUNY), Exam# 6102. Applicants selected for this position will be required to show proof that they took the exam. All Provisional and/or Temporary employees must take the appropriate civil service exam and score high enough to be reachable on the civil service list in order to be appointed. When a civil service list is established, the College is required to make appointments from the certified list to fill all positions including those held by Provisional and/or Temporary employees. A valid License for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings. A valid certificate of qualification for Refrigerating Machine Operator (unlimited Capacity) issued by the New York City Fire Department and a Universal CFC Certificate issued by EPA for Handling Refrigerants. For appointment in certain Colleges, candidates will also be required to possess one or more of the following: A valid Citywide Standpipe Certificate issued by the New York Fire Department (S13) A valid Citywide Automatic Sprinkler Certificate issued by the New York City Fire Department (S12) A valid Interior Fire Alarm Certificate issued by the New York City Fire Department A valid Pool Operator’s certificate issued by a Qualified Swimming Pool Water Treatment Operator Provider Notes

Some of the physical activities performed by Stationary Engineers and environmental conditions experienced are working in confined areas in a physical plant, including boiler room, heating and ventilating room, walking up and down stairs, climbing up and down ladders, handling chemicals, and being around hazardous materials such as asbestos and infectious waste. All licenses and certifications must be maintained for the duration of employment. Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge in the operation, troubleshooting and repair of BMS systems (Building Management Systems) such as Johnson Controls and American Auto Matrix Knowledge of service and repair for High Pressure Steam Reducing Stations controls including replacement of diaphragms Knowledge/Experience in use of computers - Able to utilize Windows, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook Email Knowledge/Experience in the reading of electrical control schematics as necessary to trouble shoot VFD controls (Variable Frequency Drives) and Split AC Units 2 to 4 years of hands-on work experience in the servicing, repairing and maintaining HVAC controls components such as electromechanical/pneumatic/DDC Controls, VAV boxes, reheat control valves and Low voltage controls including the use of a multi meter 3 to 5 years of experience managing HVAC personnel in higher education and/or hospital scenarios 3 to 5 years Direct experience in the trouble shooting and repair DX/split A/C System on both control and Refrigerant Circuits Experience developing material lists for necessary HVAC repairs and acquiring computerized quotes of said material/services Pool operator certificate and pool operation experience Compensation

$149,438 Benefits
