Job Summary
This position administers chemotherapy infusion nursing care to patients in an office setting. The RN is responsible for implementing the nursing process in accordance with professional practice and agency policy. The RN will provide quality cancer care to all patients under the direction and supervision of the physician.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing Experience:
2 years of experience in the provision of acute care nursing Certifications/Licensure:
Current RN licensure in South Carolina; BLS/CPR; Preferred OCN, ACLS, PALS Training:
Documented proficiency in Infusion Therapy, chemotherapy administration, PICC line care, VAD care, Hickman/Broviac care, and maintenance
Essential Functions
Process chemotherapy orders, notify physician of patient needs and changes in condition promptly; document all procedures in the electronic health record (EHR). Maintain awareness of billing events in the EHR related to chemotherapy dosing; perform dose calculations and drug interaction checks. Determine nursing care needs for each patient and regularly re-evaluate patient needs. Counsel patients and families on nursing and related needs; insert intravenous cannulas; administer IV solutions and medications; monitor infusion sites and systems. Evaluate patient response to prescribed therapy.
Duties & Responsibilities
Refer patients to Hospital Social Worker, Breast Cancer Navigator, Financial Counselor, and Dietitian when appropriate. Prepare clinical records and progress notes for each patient visit in a timely manner. Ensure proper disposal and handling of Hazardous Waste and Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals; complete required RCRA training within 6 months of hire and ongoing annually. Perform other duties as assigned.
