Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine and complex histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist. The histologic techniques include the following: fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E and Special Stains) of human tissue for evaluation. This includes complex histologic techniques such as enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, cryotomy, immunofluorescence, and tissue microarray. Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalency AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program. Unless currently working as a Histotechnician in an approved clinical laboratory or HT certified (ASCP or equivalent), the education received from a NAACLS accredited HT program is acceptable for a period of five years from the date of completion of that program. OR 60 semester hours of academic credit from an accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), OR an associate degree from an accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the associate degree AND one year of full time acceptable clinical experience At least 1 year of clinical histology experience HT Certification [ASCP equivalent] Effective communication of English language Proficiency in HHC Computer systems i.e. EPIC, SunQuest, CoPath preferred but not required Ability to provide excellent customer service skills and exhibit a professional attitude.
