Under the general direction of the Sr. Psychologist and Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker I, apply counseling interventions and psychotherapeutic techniques within the scope of applicable Business and Professions Code(s) and license to improve an incarcerated individual’s mental health and the effectiveness of preventive skills and behaviors for wellness. Provide preventative outreach to the incarcerated population, including those not in the mental health delivery system, to improve access to care and wellness strategies. Participate in education, treatment, rehabilitative, and restorative justice programs as part of a holistic care approach in a safe and humane environment. Collaborate with department staff, other governmental agencies, health care partners, and communities to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Engage in re-entry and community reintegration efforts as part of the California Model initiative. Qualifications
Education: Possession of a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Counseling or Psychotherapy that meets the requirements of Business and Professions Code 4999.32. Licensure: Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science. Applicants who do not qualify for licensure at the time of application may be admitted into the examination but must secure a valid license within four years of appointment; employment is allowed only to the extent necessary to become eligible for licensure plus one year. Note: A Training and Development assignment (T&D) will not be considered at this time. Additional Information
Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) details apply to full-time and prorated for part-time employees, with base salary adjustments and PLP leave credits through June 2027. Job control is listed until filled. Applications will be reviewed on specified dates (e.g., 9/12/25, 9/26/25, 10/10/25, etc.). Referral bonuses may be available for CDCR/CCHCS employees who are selected and remain employed for 90 days; a questionnaire with the referring employee’s details will be provided during pre-employment.
