Job Summary Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow and improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory effectively, and enhances patient experience. Manages pharmacy staff performance and engagement. Ensures the professional development of pharmacy staff by overseeing training, focused coaching, and executing formal performance management initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
Patient Experience: Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves patient issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive patient experience.
Customer service excellence: Models and shares customer service best practices to deliver a distinctive and joyful patient experience, including interpersonal habits that show care and Walgreens service traits.
Patient engagement: Connects with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services; leads efforts to increase awareness of healthcare services offered through Walgreens.
Community involvement: Participates in events reflecting the communities served as requested by leadership.
Operations: Counsels patients on usage, side effects, interactions, privacy, generics, cost considerations, and OTC products. Refers to medical provider as needed to ensure correct medication use and customer satisfaction.
Pharmacy tasks: Performs compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.
Dispensing and compliance: Reviews, interprets, and accurately dispenses prescribed medications; ensures operation in accordance with regulations, company policies, and standards.
Workflow and leadership: Establishes procedures to promote efficient workflow; oversees staffing, scheduling, role assignment, and team input; responsible for opening/closing the pharmacy and shift changes.
Regulatory compliance: Ensures Good Faith Dispensing elements in line with state and federal controlled substance laws.
IT and provider collaboration: Maintains knowledge of pharmacy systems, supports staff and patients with IT, and identifies productivity improvements.
Insurance and issues resolution: Ensures accurate insurance claims and supports resolution with providers or third-party audits.
Clinical services: Follows up with providers on medications, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies; performs immunizations and other wellness services as appropriate.
Virtual support: Partners with centralized support for patient registration and issue resolution; conducts virtual product reviews per company procedures.
Facility maintenance: Manages maintenance and layout changes to ensure a functional and presentable pharmacy.
Documentation: Prepares and submits records and reports as required by law.
People & Performance Management: Collaborates with Store Manager on hiring, discipline, and ensuring compliance with employment laws; sets expectations and goals; recognizes improvements and conducts performance reviews; manages career progression and addresses employee relations concerns.
Training & Personal Development: Maintains licensing/credentialing; pursues ongoing professional development and completes required training and education credits; seeks feedback and mentorship from supervisors.
Communications: Supports the Store Manager by disseminating relevant corporate health and wellness information to pharmacy staff.
Business Performance & Planning: Analyzes performance data (pharmacy financials, customer service, inventory); manages asset protection and inventory; builds relationships with local medical community to promote growth and health awareness.
Basic Qualifications
BS in Pharmacy or PharmD Degree from an accredited institution.
Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district.
Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
At least 1 year pharmacy experience including prescription filling, recordkeeping, legal compliance, operations, software/technology, and insurance billing.
Experience with prescription dispensing and knowledge of state/federal controlled substance laws.
Internal candidates: average leadership rating of 3.0 or higher on last review and no disciplinary actions in last 12 months.
