Responsibilities
Utilize the Aged Trial Balance report to review patient accounts, ascertain prior billing and collection actions, and work all credit balances.
Refer outstanding accounts to collection agencies when collection efforts have proven unsuccessful; interact with outside pre-collection and collection agencies as required.
Document collection actions on individual accounts, including dates of collection notices, telephone calls, credit checks, and any credit arrangements made.
Research and resolve billing questions from walk-in and discharged patients, attorneys, third-party payors; provide itemized bills upon request.
File liens in cases of liabilities and assist attorneys as required for judicial system matters; may require appearances in court to assist legal counsel.
Follow up with liability cases to ensure appropriate reimbursement for hospital balances; refer problem compromises to the supervisor for approval.
Provide billing information to other health care providers as appropriate.
Receive and verify patient information including changes in address, insurance coverage, and effective dates.
Assist patients in completing Financial Assistance Applications and other available payment plans.
Review returned mail to correct and update patient accounts and generate revised bills as needed.
Participate in educational programs, in-service meetings, councils, quality improvement teams, and other committees as required.
Maintain quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with system policies and objectives.
Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge of Fair Debt Collection Act, computer operations, and routine accounting procedures required.
One year of experience in a health care collection environment.
Pay Range $20.55-$33.93
