Overview

This is a remote position based in the US. Candidates located in the Chicago or Detroit areas preferred. Responsibilities

Lead the development, review, or audit/assessment of safety work products for clients seeking compliance to safety standards in functional safety and related fields, including IEC 61508, ISO 13849, IEC/EN 62061, UL991, UL1998, ISO 61511, ISO 21448, UL 4600, IEC 61487, ISO 26262, and other similar standards relevant to systems- and software-engineering. Lead the development, review, or audit/assessment of safety processes and related safety management processes for clients seeking compliance to these standards. Employ established methods and frameworks to lead the engineering development, review, or audit/assessment of safety cases for complex software-intensive systems. Work with systems such as self-driving vehicles, industrial automation, and battery/energy storage systems; apply safety analysis methods including FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, safety requirements management, safety concepts (FSC/TSC), system and software architectures, HIL and SIL testing, system integration tests, vehicle integration tests, and system/vehicle validation. Lead full training events on topics related to functional safety and relevant standards (e.g., ISO 26262, IEC 61508, IEC/EN 62061, ISO 61511, ISO 21448, UL 4600, ISO 13849). Provide mentorship and thought leadership for junior-level engineering personnel. Lead business development activities, including defining Statements of Work (SOWs), providing budget estimates, and submitting full proposals for client-funded projects. Leverage industry experience and network to win projects and grow the business. Lead client programs, including major programs, by engaging regularly with clients in technical program meetings and project reviews; address and resolve client concerns. Provide expert technical leadership and guidance to clients in functional safety and related technical fields. Travel to client sites and UL locations as needed to support projects. Provide leadership and technical advice on special projects; may serve as Primary Designated Engineer or Designated Engineer for specific product categories. Contribute to strategic direction of the business by providing technical and market expertise to management planning and reporting activities. Perform verification reviews or other technical reviews as directed. Take on roles requiring independent expert technical judgement (e.g., PDE, review board chair, Regional Lead Reviewer) and represent UL at industry events such as seminars and trade shows. Communicate project status and results to clients through reports, written communication, and executive-level interactions. Operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment. Contribute to the development of UL technical standards and other relevant standards (ISO, IEC, IEEE, SAE) as a member and leader of standards committees. Engage in thought leadership within the technical community, contributing to standards committees, engineering societies, conferences, and publications. Foster continuous improvement and safety culture in all aspects of the job. Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and adhere to security practices. Performs other duties as directed. Qualifications

University degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, or a closely related field. 8+ years of industrial functional safety experience. Detailed knowledge of technical vocabulary common to the discipline. Working knowledge of conformity standards relevant to the area of expertise. Working knowledge of industry issues, needs, and problems. Demonstrated ability to apply project-handling concepts in the area of expertise. Benefits & Total Rewards

Total Rewards: The estimated salary range for this position is $150,000-210,000 and is based on factors including knowledge, experience, location, and other factors. Eligible for annual bonus with a target payout of 20% of base salary.
