Overview
Job: Specimen Technician. Duration: 6 Months. Shift: Fri–Tues 8 pm – 4:30 am PST. Location: San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675. Responsibilities
Provide general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. Demonstrate a data entry background. Perform functions such as A-station, presort, pickup, and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting. Ensure all functions are performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner. Learn and understand specimen types related to the test(s) ordered by the client and stay adaptable to changes in compliance regulations related to test ordering. Contribute to quality and customer satisfaction; operate in a flexible environment where day-to-day changes may occur. Work primarily on the night shift with staffing needs requiring weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as needed. Operate in a production environment with emphasis on productivity and quality standards and departmental completion times. Maintain a data background capable of entering 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour; work in a biohazard environment following safety practices. Able to sit or stand for long periods. Communicate effectively with all levels of staff; adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures. Keep work area neat and clean; demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and flexibility to adapt to change. Education
HS diploma or equivalent. Required Knowledge
Basic understanding of computers with a preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing. Work Experience
No experience required, but previous laboratory experience preferred. Medical background preferred, including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory. Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus but not required. Previous experience in a production environment preferred. #PB01
