Job Summary
The Specimen Processing Technician (SPT I) provides critical support to the Specimen Processing Department, ensuring that laboratory samples are handled with accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. This role involves data entry, specimen handling, and adherence to productivity and quality standards in a biohazard environment.
Key Responsibilities
Perform a variety of specimen processing functions including A‑station operations, presort, pickup/delivery, imaging, centrifugation, and aliquoting. Maintain accuracy and timeliness across all tasks in a fast‑paced, production‑driven lab setting. Use strong data entry skills (minimum 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour). Demonstrate flexibility to adjust to daily operational changes. Follow safety and compliance policies, ensuring adherence to biohazard handling protocols. Keep work area clean and organized while maintaining communication with all levels of staff. Support department completion goals with attention to quality and turnaround times.
Required Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Strong data entry background required.
Nice-to-Have Experience
Previous laboratory or hospital lab experience. Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory test processing. Experience in a production or logistics environment.
