The Construction Inspector II is responsible for working with others to inspect construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractor constructs improvements in accordance with plans and specifications. This role reports to a more senior inspector and a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for final approval of all engineering-related work. The work requires contact with clients, typically governmental agencies and private entities including construction contractors. Provides recommendations to the client regarding work progress and challenges encountered. Under the review and direction of the Project Manager, perform field inspection and oversight of construction activities Maintain daily inspection reports and detailed records of project progress Possess good interpersonal and communication skills Read and interpret plans, specifications and applicable standards Review contract documents to verify compliance with governmental regulations and conformance with project requirements Assist with coordinating materials sampling and testing and verify sufficient testing has been performed Verify the accuracy of payment requests and invoicing for completed work Experience with NCDOT construction inspection and procedures Coordinate with contractors’ staff and effectively communicate with all parties Measure and/or quantify pay items in the field and perform necessary mathematical calculations Performs standard mathematical calculations Able and willing to work day or night shifts and/or flexible schedules as required to support project requirements; weekend work may be required Able to accept assignments requiring extended travel to project sites to perform inspection tasks, attend preconstruction and progress meetings Perform other tasks as assigned to help accomplish the company’s strategic goals NCDOT construction inspection certifications are highly preferred What You Bring to SAM
High School Diploma or GED Minimum of 4 years of experience in Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) for transportation projects as described Direct field experience as a contractor or materials-testing technician can substitute for CEI experience on a case-by-case basis Familiarity with Share-Plus software and use of an iPad is preferred Experience with Primavera and Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and other scheduling software preferred Functional computer skills including Microsoft Word, emailing, and Excel Ability to complete inspector certification courses (examples include NCDOT classes in hot-mix asphalt and ACI & NCDOT concrete sampling and testing; NCDOT Erosion Control certification Level II) Highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision Thorough knowledge of NCDOT specifications and standards with willingness to study and advance relevant knowledge outside of work Certifications and/or Licensing Requirements Field testing certifications through NCDOT and/or ACI are highly preferred Our Perks
