Overview
Balanced Body is seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental Health Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our Safety team. The EHS Specialist will be partnering on the development, implementation, and overseeing our comprehensive safety programs that protect our employees and ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, with a specific focus on manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with a strong background in manufacturing safety, a passion for education, and the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization to promote a strong culture of safety.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development and Management:
Partner in the development, implementation, and management of all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs, policies, and procedures, including a robust Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure the company is in full compliance with all relevant regulations from agencies such as OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and others. Prepare and submit required reports and documentation.
Risk Assessment and Control:
Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits of all manufacturing processes, including woodworking, metal fabrication, upholstery, and assembly. Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions and controls.
Training and Education:
Design and deliver mandatory safety training for all new hires and current employees. Topics include machine guarding, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hazardous materials handling, and fire safety.
Incident Investigation:
Lead investigations of workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses. Perform root cause analysis and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
Emergency Preparedness:
Develop and maintain emergency action plans, fire prevention plans, and other response plans. Conduct and document regular drills.
Safety Committee:
Co-chair the internal safety committee, fostering active participation and employee involvement in safety issue resolution.
Continuous Improvement:
Monitor KPIs and drive initiatives to enhance safety performance and reduce incident rates.
Ergonomics:
Conduct ergonomic evaluations of workstations and tasks to prevent musculoskeletal disorders, especially where manual lifting and repetitive motions are involved.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
EHS Software:
Experience with EHS management software; maintain records, dashboards, and reports, and manage risks and compliance.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a health and safety management role in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations applicable to general industry and manufacturing.
Experience in developing and implementing effective safety programs and training materials.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis and identify trends from safety data.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability to influence safety culture.
Professional certification such as CSP or ASP or other relevant certifications highly preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
Valid CA driver’s license required to drive to multiple local warehouse locations.
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk, stand, and navigate a manufacturing floor for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion.
Work Schedule Fully On-site in Sacramento, CA 95828
Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Travel to two offsite warehouse locations required.
