Overview
TPWD - Maintenance Specialist III (Operations Ranger) General Description: Under the direction of the Lead Maintenance Specialist, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for assisting with the operation, preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting), and maintenance of grounds and buildings of Galveston Island State Park. Duties include but are not limited to: groundskeeping, building and facility construction and maintenance, repairs to buildings, water and wastewater systems repairs, equipment and vehicle upkeep and preventative maintenance, and good customer service to park visitors. Operational duties may include purchasing of supplies, monthly paperwork, and other associated reports. Follows state rules and regulations using a purchase card to obtain items needed for park operations. Uses computer to answer and correspond by email, fill out timesheets, and file needed park reports. Assists with special events, natural and cultural resource management, promoting voluntary compliance of state park rules and regulations, and responding to emergency situations. Oversees work of volunteers and community service workers. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
Education : Graduation from High School or GED. Experience : Three years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience. Licensure : Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid state driver\'s license. Note: Retention of position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses.
Acceptable Substitutions
Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.

Experience working with the public.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of building and facility repair techniques (carpentry, plumbing, electrical or mechanical); general custodial duties; vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance; basic mathematics; revenue collection; construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems; building materials; welding procedures and techniques. Skills in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; effective verbal and written communication; use of hand and power tools and mechanical equipment; operating heavy equipment; establishing and maintaining effective work relationships; providing quality customer service; making independent, sound, and timely decisions; arc, MIG, and oxy-acetylene welding and cutting; selecting appropriate tools and troubleshooting; ability to work independently and in fast-paced environments; ability to work as part of a team and to direct and oversee the work of others; ability to communicate with the public and coordinate with multiple agencies; ability to read drawings, diagrams, or blueprints; ability to estimate materials; ability to perform and supervise maintenance and repair tasks; ability to lift up to 50 lbs; ability to follow TPWD safety program.
Working Conditions
Required to work in a high-visitation public park with overnight camping. 40 hours per week with varied schedules. Outdoor work in adverse weather conditions; manual labor up to 50 lbs; operate a state vehicle; travel up to 5% with possible overnight stays. Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, safety procedures, and non-smoking environment in state buildings and vehicles. TPWD is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
