Work Arrangement: Hybrid
Duration: 6+ months
Position Overview The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for leading and supporting the end-to-end packaging commercialization process in a food manufacturing environment. Key duties include designing innovative packaging solutions, collaborating across teams, and overseeing technical development—from initial concept to manufacturing implementation. This position will interface with plant staff, corporate engineering teams, vendors, and contractors to ensure packaging quality, efficiency, and successful product launches.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of packaging for food products; create and review technical packaging drawings.
Collaborate on team projects at corporate and plant levels, as well as with engineering firms, vendors, and contractors.
Apply process engineering solutions specific to consumer packaged goods.
Support new product startup and commercialization, ensuring packaging equipment compatibility (cartoning, case packing, etc.).
Maintain documentation and manage multiple packaging projects simultaneously.
Ensure packaging meets manufacturing requirements, safety standards, and regulatory compliance.
Utilize Microsoft Office Products, Office 365, SharePoint, and TOPS for documentation and project management.
Effectively communicate and network face-to-face with diverse business teams.
Demonstrate self-direction, motivation, and superior time management to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field.
At least 5 years of package engineering experience.
Solid understanding of the product commercialization process from packaging design through manufacturing.
Prior experience in a food manufacturing environment.
Direct experience with cartoning equipment, case packing equipment, and other packaging systems.
Demonstrated expertise in process engineering for consumer packaged goods.
Proficiency in creating technical packaging drawings.
Experience managing multiple projects at corporate and plant levels.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in food manufacturing, general manufacturing, or a related industry.
Experience working on new production startup processes.
Experience with Product Lifecycle Management systems (Interspec, Optiva, or similar).
